Battery Park has a number of interesting sculptures. The top photograph is of The Sphere by Fritz Koenig. The Sphere originally stood in the plaza between the World Trade Centre towers. The sculpture sustained some visible damage, but was recovered from the wreckage intact and was relocated to Battery Park as a memorial.
I was expecting the Statue of Liberty to be underwhelming. How can such a familiar landmark live up to the image created by popular culture? But it's a remarkable sculpture and incredibly impressive in real life, despite over familiarity. The second stop on the ferry ride from Battery Park is Ellis Island where the building that was used for processing immigrants now stands as an immigration museum.
